Lehman, Elaine

Elaine Lehman, age 91, passed away on January 30, 2013, in the comfort of her home.

She was born to Theodore and Gertrude (Schwanke) Kretzmann on October 5, 1921, in Chicago, IL. There she was baptized and confirmed at St. Phillip Church and culminated her education as a graduate of North Park College. Elaine married Hubert Lehman in 1946. The couple then moved to New London after WWII. In addition to caring for their four children, she worked as a secretary for Ormond Capener’s law firm, clerked at O’Neils Office Supply, and managed the women’s clothing department at Christy’s. Elaine loved the Lord Jesus and desired to serve Him. She attended church regularly and shared her faith with many. Her servant attitude was demonstrated when she answered the phone with “How may I help you?” Elaine enjoyed reading the Bible and frequently had Biblical quotes displayed in her living room window.

Elaine was preceded in death by her husband in 1985, and her daughter, Marcia, in 2011. She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law Conrad and Georgine Kretzmann; her children, Nancy Lehmann, James (Debra) Lehman and Thomas Lehman; eight grandchildren; and 9 great grandchildren.

Funeral services for Elaine were held on Saturday, February 2, 2013, at 12 noon at Emanuel Lutheran Church, New London with Rev. Marcus Schulz officiating. Visitation was from 10:00 AM until the time of service. Interment was in St John Cemetery, Town of Caledonia. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the many caregivers who tended to Elaine during her long battle with MS.
