A visit from Rooty

Rooty the Great Root Bear, A & W mascot, visited students at Clintonville Middle School Wednesday, Jan. 30.

The visit was part of Mix it Up/Float Around Day, which is a national initiative designed to encourage students to sit with different kids at lunch.

This allows students to meet more of their classmates and find similarities in other students. All students who sat with a different classmate than they usually do received a free root beer float on Mix it Up/Float Around Day. The event drives at promoting respect and diversity.

“It’s good for kids to get to know everyone, not just those in their circle of close friends,” said Clintonville Public School District Social Worker Suzette Fountain. “The kids who do not fit in as easily really benefit from projects like this. It helps them not be so scared to reach out to other people, and promotes a friendlier environment. We hope to do this more often in the future.”

Fountain worked with the Power of Peer Support (POPS) group and Clintonville A & W Manager Erica Hundertmark to coordinate the event locally.
