Community theater selects summer productions

The Waupaca Community Children’s Theatre will present Disney’s “The Little Mermaid” under the direction of Lauri VandenBoom.

Adapted from Disney’s 2008 Broadway production, the show features the hit songs “Part of Your World,” “She’s in Love” and the Oscar-winning “Under the Sea.”

Auditions will be held in early April, rehearsals during the summer and six performances at various locations in and around Waupaca during the last week in July.

The Waupaca Community Theatre will present “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee” by William Finn and Rachel Sheinkin.

The musical chronicles the experience of six adolescents vying for the spelling championship of a lifetime. The show’s Tony Award winning creative team has created the unlikeliest of hit musicals about the unlikeliest of heroes: a quirky yet charming cast of outsiders for whom a spelling bee is the one place where they can stand out and fit in at the same time.

John Kelley, who also directed the WCT musicals “Into The Woods”, “Little Women” and “Sweeney Todd” will direct the production.

Auditions will be in mid April with performances culminating in late July and early August.
