Potratz wins all-star match

Weyauwega-Fremont senior Trevor Potratz won his match March 5 at the Gene Gehl Senior All-Star Wrestling Classic at Kimberly High School.

The showcase wrestling event pits top seniors from northeastern Wisconsin against each other in a dual meet format competition.

Potratz defeated Jordan Abhold of Oshkosh West 13-5 using two takedowns to the back in the first period. He added a reversal to the back in the second period to open up a big lead and then cruised to the win in the third period.

Abhold was the Fox Valley Conference champion at 170 pounds and had a 25-11 record this season. The major decision helped the Blue team defeat the Red team 42-9.

“This was a lot of fun,” Potratz said. “It is a great way to end my career with a win and to represent my school and community of Weyauwega-Fremont in this all-star event. I just love to wrestle and this gave me an opportunity to do that.”
