Abhold wins shot put event in Oshkosh

Elizabeth Abhold won the shot put event for Weyauwega-Fremont March 26 at the Oshkosh High School Invitational, a girls’ indoor track meet at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh.

The Indians also competed March 21 at the Seymour Invitational, where the W-F boys and girls placed sixth and seventh, respectively.

Oshkosh Invitational

OSHKOSH – Abhold turned in a distance of 37 feet, 1 inch to win the shot put event by more than a foot over Sheboygan Falls’ Samantha Reilly.

The Indians finished 21st out of 34 teams with 10 points.

W-F’s other finishers included Caragan Volz, 10th in the triple jump; the 3,200-meter relay, 14th; the 1,600-meter relay team, 18th; the 800-meter relay team, 22nd; Alyse Peters, 23rd in the 800-meter run; Danielle Austreng, tied 27th in the high jump; Marlen Leyva, tied for 37th in the long jump; Paige Kempf and Sarah Fields, 40th and 44th, respectively, in the 1,600-meter run; and Ryanne Benz, 44th in the 400-meter dash.

Seymour Invitational

SEYMOUR – Luke Rohloff won the boys’ 55-meter hurdles in 8.2 seconds and placed third in the 200-meter run.

Other finishers for the boys were the 3,200 relay team, third; Nick Thomas, fifth in the 1,600; Tanner Ross, tied for fifth, Bryce Behn, seventh, and Dylan Pankow, tied for 10th in the high jump; Lincoln Van Cuick, seventh, and Dustin Hanes, ninth in the long jump; Tre Blohm, ninth in the 200; the 800 and 1,600 relay teams, sixth; Logan Kobiske and Brandon Loehrke, seventh and 12th, respectively, in the 800; Pankow and Mark Buchholtz, 12th and 16th, respectively, in the 400; and Nate Burton and Andy Bork, 13th and 15th, respectively, in the shot put.

Finishers for the girls included Abhold, second in the shot put; Volz and Lauren Akey, second and seventh, respectively, in the triple jump; the 3,200 relay team, second; the 800 relay team, fourth; the 1,600 relay team, fifth; Austreng, seventh in the high jump; Kempf and Fields, seventh and ninth, respectively, in the 1,600; Aysia Schroeder, ninth in the 200 hurdles; Brianne Durrant, 11th in the 800; and Leyva, 11th in the long jump.

The Indians’ upcoming schedule includes a Central Wisconsin 8 Conference meet at 4 p.m. today (Thursday, April 4) and a home meet at 3:45 p.m. Thursday, April 11, against Iola-Scandinavia, Amherst, Stevens Point Pacelli and Starr Academy.
