Mother-daughter class at RMC

A mother-daughter class on puberty will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, April 13, at Riverside Medical Center in Waupaca.

“Especially for Girls: What’s Happening to Me?” will help them address the sensitive topics of physical and emotional development.

“It’s a great mom and daughter experience,” said Beckie Crisman RN, CDE, noting that they “get that mom and daughter connection, to get them talking about growth and development.”

Designed for girls ages 9-12, the class includes talk about girls’ changing bodies, menstruation, an overview of hygiene products, emotional changes and issues regarding self-esteem, healthy eating, development and body image. It is not a sex education class.

“In the class we talk about embarrassing situations,” Crisman said. “All the moms have stories, too.”

The pair will also do a special photo frame craft.

The fee is $20 for each mother-daughter pair or $30 for a mother and two daughters.
