Wega girls sweep Amherst

Kelsey Akey and Katie Ponto each picked up a win on the mound April 22, as the Weyauwega-Fremont softball team swept a Central Wisconsin 8 Conference doubleheader from Manawa.

The Indians also handed Stevens Point Pacelli a 7-3 defeat April 18 and dropped a 5-3 decision April 16 to Mosinee in eight innings.

The bats were hot and stayed hot for W-F, as the Indians came up with 22 hits in the two games.

Anna Forslin and Karissa Akey each had two hits and drove in a pair of runs in the first game, as W-F took a 6-0 lead into the bottom of the fifth inning. Amherst countered with two runs in the bottom of the fifth, but that would be all the runs the Falcons could muster.

Kelsey Akey got the win in the first game.

Macey Schoenick and Mariah Hulbert helped Ponto in the second game with two hits each.

W-F 7, Pacelli 3

The Indians knocked off the Cardinals in Pacelli’s first game since winning the Division 3 state championship last June.

Teal Tomaszewski scored on a wild pitch in the top of the first inning, but Pacelli answered with a pair of runs in the bottom half of the frame.

Kelsey Akey picked up the win and pitched her way out of a pair of bases-loaded, no-out jams.

Mosinee 5, W-F 3

No details of the game were available.

The Indians will head to Shiocton today (Thursday, April 25) for a 4:30 p.m. CWC-8 matchup with the Chiefs before hosting Rosholt, Kewaskum and Wrightstown Saturday, April 27, for the Weyauwega-Fremont Invitational. Games are scheduled to get under way at 10 a.m. in Weyauwega.
