Indians hang on to Shiocton

It wasn’t pretty, but the Weyauwega-Fremont softball team did just enough to defeat Shiocton April 25 in a Central Wisconsin 8 Conference game.

The Indians committed five errors in the game and came up with six runs in the seventh and eighth innings to get the win.

The teams entered the fourth inning tied at 2-2 after W-F came up with runs in the first and third frames and the Chiefs scored twice in their half of the third.

The Indians scored a run in the fourth and added two more in the seventh to take a 5-2 lead into the bottom of the seventh, but the Chiefs forced extra innings with three runs in the bottom of the frame.

Miranda Potratz drove in the go-ahead run in the top of the eighth and the Indians added three more runs before holding the Chiefs scoreless in the bottom of the eighth.

Anna Forslin had three of the Indians’ 12 hits, while Potratz and Karissa Akey added two each. Kelsey Akey got the win on the mound.

The Indians will play Manawa today (Thursday, May 2) before hosting Wittenberg-Birnamwood at 4 p.m. Monday, May 6, for a doubleheader.
