Two rallies, two wins for Waupaca girls

Waupaca’s softball team picked up recent wins over Tomahawk and Berlin.

The Comets handed Tomahawk an 11-1 defeat April 26 in a nonconference matchup and came from behind to beat Berlin twice April 25.

Waupaca 11, Tomahawk 1 (6 inn.)

Lindsey Reach held the Hatchets to two hits and Waupaca scored five times in the first inning before adding three runs in the fifth and two in the sixth.

Mandy Tomlinson, Jessica Borntrager and Bobbi Sue Sell each had two of Waupaca’s 12 hits, while Ellen Ryder added a double.

Waupaca 5, Berlin 4

Tina Rasmussen’s two-run single in the bottom of the sixth drove in the winning run. Rasmussen and Cassidy Johnson each had two of Waupaca’s eight hits.

Emerie Vasquez got the win on the mound.

Waupaca 7, Berlin 5

The Comets trailed 2-1 heading into the seventh inning, but came up with six runs in the top of the seventh. Tomlinson had three of Waupaca’s 10 hits in the game, while Vasquez added two and Tasha Smith drove in a pair of runs.

Vasquez also got the win.

The Comets hosted Ripon April 30 and play a pair of Eastern Valley Conference doubleheaders on the road. Waupaca will play at Fox Valley Lutheran Friday, May 3, before heading to Little Chute Tuesday, May 7.

First pitch both days is set for 4 p.m.
