Ehlke, Walter ?Doc?

Walter F. “Doc” Ehlke, age 101, of Readfield, passed away on Saturday, June 22, 2013, his 76th wedding an-niversary, and is dancing in Heaven with Esther.

Doc was born on July 18, 1911, in the Town of Caledonia, the son of the late Albert and Edna (Schneider) Ehlke. On June 22, 1937, Doc married Esther Schellin at St. John Lutheran Church in Caledonia. They enjoyed dancing together, even dancing on TV for at least fifteen years, and won many awards for their talents. Esther preceded him in death on November 7, 2008. Doc worked as a cheesemaker for 30 years. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Readfield, where he served as a former school board secretary and janitor. He was also a member of the Zion Lutheran Cemetery Board.

Doc is survived by his son, Jim (Sharon) Ehlke, New London and a daughter, JoAnne (Jerry) Kuppernus, New London; five grandchildren: Steve (Karen) Ehlke, Lisa (Mike) Zaddock, Todd Kuppernus, Tim Kuppernus, and Troy (Liz) Kuppernus; seven great-grandchildren: Candace (fiance’ Josh) Kuppernus, Kayla (Jim) Thorp, Dylan Ehlke, Lauren Zaddock, Konnor Tyler and Riley Kuppernus; his sister, Adeline Schimke, Crivitz; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by a sister, Caroline (David) Meshke, three brothers-in-law, Raymond Schimke, Henry (Alma) Schellin and Walter (Clara) Schellin.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 25, 2013 at 11:00 AM at Zion Lutheran Church, N985 Cty Rd. W, Readfield. Burial will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Lewin Funeral Home, Fremont, and on Tuesday, at the church, from 10:00 AM until the time of service. A memorial fund has been established for Zion Lutheran Church.
