Baird, Verna J.

Verna J. Baird, age 96 of Clintonville, formerly of New London, passed away on Thursday, June 27, 2013 at the Pine Manor Health Care Center, Embarrass.

Verna was born on October 9, 1916 in the Township of Bear Creek, Waupaca County, the daughter of the late August and Minnie (Voss) Roehl. She was baptized on November 5, 1916 and confirmed on March 29, 1931 both at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, Symco. On April 16, 1935, Verna was united in marriage to Charles Baird in Baldwin Mills, Waupaca County. The couple had lived in New London and the surrounding area for many years. Verna also worked in New London for various businesses. The couple later moved to Clintonville to be near family. Charles preceded his wife in death on August 11, 1982 after 47 years of marriage. Verna enjoyed sewing and had made many bridal and attendant dresses. As special mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother, she enjoyed being with her family and will be sadly missed at family gatherings. Verna was a member of the Emanuel Lutheran Church, New London.

Survivors include: her daughters, Faye Oestreich and Delores (Robert “Bucky”) Schultz, Clintonville; her grandchildren: Todd (Debbie) Oestreich, New London; Tammy (Scott) Rogers, Embarrass; Theresa (Scott) Pluger, Shawano; Jody Schultz, Lake Mille, WI; Jan (Jon) Henschel, Clintonville; Jay (Kristi) Schultz, Oshkosh; her great-grandchildren: Amie (Kavit) Beyersdorf, Shawano; Stephan (Kelly) Pluger, Marion; Whitney Pluger, Shawano; Carrie and Stacy Oestreich; Justin ( Melissa) Henschel, New London; Jennifer Henschel, Appleton; Jordan Henschel, Clintonville; Ella and Charles Schultz; her great-great-grandchildren: Myles Pluger, Braxon and Kinlie Beyersdorf; her sisters-in-law: Edna Mae Grawvunder, New London; Alice Roehl, Manawa; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charles; her son, Russell in infancy; her son-in-law, James Oestreich; her sisters, Agnes Mehlberg, Rosetta Sawall, and her brother, Orville Roehl.

Funeral services will be held 11 A. M. Monday, July 1, 2013 at the Emanuel Lutheran Church, New London with the Rev. Marcus Schulz officiating. Interment will be in the Northport Ostrander Cemetery, Township of Mukwa, Waupaca County. Friends may call at the church on Monday from 9:30 A.M. until the time of the service.
