Achten, James P.

James P. Achten, age 94, of King, WI, formerly of Scandinavia and Kaukauna died Wednesday, June 19th, 2013 at the Wisconsin Veterans Home in King.

James was born in West De Pere, Wisconsin on April 14, 1919, the son of the late Jake and Eva (Hibbard ) Achten. On October 8, 1942, he married the former Laura Green. She preceded him in death on January 19, 2013. Jim served in the US Army during WWII from July 25, 1941 to December 8, 1945. He was employed by the City of Kaukauna for 19 years retiring in 1984. He was a member of St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church in Waupaca. Jim enjoyed fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, camping, golfing, travelling, wood craft and puzzles.

He is survived by his sons: Randy (Judy) Achten of Dallas, TX., Terry (Barb) Achten of Waupaca, Mike Achten of Belleville; daughters: Mary (Paul) Dahlen of Amherst Jct., and Renee (Rich Bickle Jr.) Achten of Madison. Grandchildren: Brian Achten of Austin, Jill (Rick) Russell of Dallas, Zachary (Angela) Achten of Waupaca, Ben (Lucy Borntrager) Achten of Waupaca, Gabe (Stephanie) Achten of Madison, Elissa (Stefan) Stults of Waupaca, Anna Achten of Madison, Tamyka (Shane) Smith of New York; great grandchildren: Ashton and Casey and Carly Russell, Endeavor and Ethan Achten, Lily and Logan Achten, Martina and Piper Smith. Three sisters: Lucille (Dick) Baeten of Townsend, Margarite DeVoss of De Pere, and Mary (Merle) Durpinghouse of Two Rivers. Jim was preceded in death by six brothers: Al, Bob, Norb, Jake, John, and Bernie, and a sister, Edith.

A Memorial Service will be held Friday, July 12, 2013 at 11:00 AM at the Wisconsin Veterans Home- Main Chapel, King. Visitation will be held at the chapel from 10-11 AM. Register Book and online condolences may be sent by visiting www.voiefuneralhome.com
