Woman faces car theft, drug charges

Destinee L. Doonan, 19, Wausau, was charged in Waupaca County Circuit Court with taking a vehicle without the owner’s consent and illegal possession of prescription drugs.

On June 27, police spoke with a Waupaca man who reported that Doonan had stolen his 2006 Dodge Charger.

According to the criminal complaint, the man had allowed Doonan to borrow his car on June 19 with the understanding that she would return it the following day.

She allegedly did not return the car until June 21 and stayed at the man’s residence that night.

He left for work on the morning of June 22. When he returned home that evening, the man discovered that Doonan and his car were gone.

According to the criminal complaint, the man called and texted Doonan, who responded that she would return the car that night. She allegedly failed to do so for several days.

The man told police that he was able to trace the car’s location to Fond du Lac, using its GPS device.

When Waupaca Police Officer Diana Flatoff reported the stolen vehicle to Waupaca County dispatch, she was informed that the vWinnebago County sheriff’s Office had received a report that the vehicle had left the Country USA music festival in Oshkosh with multiple passengers and drugs.

Flatoff made telephone contact with Doonan, who denied stealing the car, but said she could not return it because she did not have enough money.

Ion June 27, Doonan returned the car to its owner, who immediately called police. The vehicle’s exterior had scratches, a damaged headlight and part of the undercarriage was hanging free.

After police arrested Doonan, they reported finding a prescripton pill in her purse.
