Embarrass Fun Daze set for July 27

The Embarrass Volunteer Fire Department will host the 25th annual Embarrass Fun Daze celebration on Saturday, July 27, at Embarrass Park.

“We’ve got a really great lineup of activities planned for this year’s event,” said Darrell Polzin, Embarrass Fire Department Chief. “There’s something for everyone at Fun Daze and we’re hoping everyone will come out and have a great time for a good cause.”

Proceeds from the event will benefit the Embarrass Fire Department and will be used to help with continued training, equipment maintenance and upgrades, and the care and maintenance of Embarrass Park.

This year, Fun Daze will feature a variety of adult and family-friendly events and entertainment throughout the day, including a parade, live music, garden tractor pulls, kickball, volleyball, bag toss tournament, as well as a humstrum contest. A large inflatable jumper for kids will be available free of charge.

Jerry Eggert will be honored as the 2012 Parade Marshal. Jerry has been a member of the Embarrass Village Board for the past 38 years and is also a retired member of the Embarrass Volunteer Fire Department. He served for 25 years from 1973-98. He is also one of the three generations in the Eggert family to serve the department. His father, Verr Eggert, served on the department from 1954-79, and his son Todd is currently a member. In addition to his regular duties as a fireman, Eggert served as the department’s carpenter and helper on many projects in the park and the fire station throughout the time of his service.

The parade will begin at 11 a.m. on the northeast end of town and proceed down Main Street to the corner of Hwy. 22. Cash prizes will be awarded for best entry in four categories: most original, most humorous, best commercial, best club or church organization.

The Third Annual Fun Daze Craft and Flea Market will kick off the day next to Zimdar’s Plumbing and Heating on Main Street from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Blind Man’s Volleyball Tournament and the 9th Annual Co-Ed Kickball Tournament will begin at 9 a.m. and a Doubles Bag Toss Tournament will begin at noon.

Truck Town Polka Sounds will provide live entertainment in the afternoon from noon to 4 p.m. and Led West will perform a variety of country, country rock, and bluegrass music for the crowd from 7 p.m. to midnight. Food and refreshments will be available all day.
