Lightfuss, Lelah Irene

Lelah Irene Lightfuss, age 102, of Manawa, went to her heavenly home on Thursday, July 25, 2013.

She was born on August 27, 1910, in the Town of Amherst, daughter of the late Bert and Pearl (Allen) Shanklin. Lelah attended Amherst Schools and Stevens Point College. On November 8, 1933, she was united in marriage to Erich Lightfuss in Symco. She became a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church in Symco in 1934. They farmed in the Town of St. Lawrence, Waupaca County, until moving to Manawa in 1967. In 1953, Lelah resumed teaching and attended the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point receiving a Bachelor’s Degree in Kindergarten Education in 1962. She retired from teaching in 1971. She was a member of the Local and State Retired Teachers Association since retiring. She was active in the Peer Companion Program since it began. She spent many years doing volunteer work for the Waupaca County Nutrition Program and served on the Nutrition Advisory Council.

She is survived by her children, Dale (Fay) Lightfuss, Ogdensburg; Faye (Roland) Junker, Grafton; 5 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Janet Shanklin, Holman. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Darlene Lightfuss and 4 brothers.

The funeral service for Lelah will be held on Tuesday, July 30, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mark Lutheran Church in Symco with Rev. Jeffrey Smiles officiating. Burial will be in Union Cemetery in Symco. A visitation for Lelah will be held on Monday, July 29, 2013, at the Cline-Hanson-Dahlke Funeral Home in Manawa from 4-7 p.m. and on Tuesday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Cline-Hanson-Dahlke Funeral Home, Manawa is assisting the family.
