Shanak, III, Michael G.

Michael G. Shanak, III, age 64, of Waupaca, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, August 4, 2013.

He was born in the Town of Hewitt, Wisconsin on June 21, 1949, the son of Michael G. Shanak, Jr. and Virginia (Beck) Shanak. He was baptized as a child of God on September 25, 1949. On May 21, 1983 he was united in marriage to Mary Lipke. Mike served with the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany during the Vietnam War. He enjoyed machining, woodworking and restoring Caterpillars. He was a great dad and wonderful husband who will be dearly missed.

He is survived by his wife, Mary, Waupaca; son, Michael Shanak, IV (fiance Athena), Waupaca; siblings: Nathalie “DeeDee” Miller, VA; Robert Shanak, Waupaca; Janet Shanak, Waupaca; George (Betty) Shanak, Wausau; Edward Shanak, Waupaca; Joyce (John) Flies, IA; Dwight (June) Shanak, Waupaca; and Douglas Shanak, Waupaca. Mike is further survived by his mother-in-law, Lucille Lipke, Waupaca and his best friend and dog, Max; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Duane; niece, Andrea Abbott, and father-in-law, Clarence Lipke.

The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, August 10, 2013 at Calvary Lutheran Church, E1887 King Rd., Waupaca, with Pastor Robert Selle officiating. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. Burial will take place at Lind Center Cemetery. The Maple Crest Funeral Home of Waupaca assisted the family with arrangements. Due to family allergies, they kindly request plants instead of flowers.
