Comet boys, T-Bird girls ranked first

Two local cross country squads won team and individual titles Sept. 17 at the Standing Rocks Invitational.

The Waupaca boys and Iola-Scandinavia girls placed first at the meet, hosted by Amherst High School and held at Standing Rocks County Park.

Waupaca had five runners in the top 10 in the boys’ varsity race. Mitchell Rotta won the race with a time of 17:24, followed by Parker Sweeney (fourth, 18:20); Eric Bolwerk (fifth, 18:31); Ryan Weise (sixth, 18:35); and Hunter Smith (ninth, 18:48). Also finishing for the Comets were Ryan Esch (14th, 19:43); and Ben Waitrovich (22nd, 21:13).

Emily Sether led I-S by winning the girls’ varsity race in 16:05. Also placing for the Thunderbirds were Leighten Fischer (fifth, 16:52); Shelby Trzebiatowski (seventh, 17:26); Natalie Gauerke (13th, 18:10): Krystal Tysdal (25th, 20:02); Emily Madson (26th, 20:02); and Ariana Garton (33rd, 21:26).

The Waupaca girls finished second behind the T-Birds. Autumn Schultz led the way with a sixth-place finish in 17:20, followed by Michelle Petkovsek (eighth, 17:32); Ashley Jeske (10th, 17:38); Victoria Nowak (12th, 18:08); Bailey Wanty (20th, 19:08); Alisa Blank (22nd, 19:27); and Morgan Platta (31st, 21:01).

Caragan Volz helped Weyauwega-Fremont’s girls’ team place fourth, as she finished second in 16:16. Also placing for the Indians were Alyse Peters (15th, 18:16.2); Paige Kempf (24th, 19:56); Miranda Arndt (28th, 20:15); Aysia Schroeder (34th, 21:34); Brianne Durrant (40th, 23:37); and Brittany Durrant (41st, 26:51).

The I-S boys placed fourth. Places and times were Chase Przybylski (third, 18:10); Dylan Robbins (17th, 20:15); Michael Schaefer (18th, 20:48); Ian Thurston (25th, 22:35); Stefan Nelson (26th, 22:44); Brandon Ibe (29th, 23:24); and Samuel Jarosh (31st, 24:06).

The W-F boys placed fifth. Places and times were Logan Kobiske (15th, 19:56); Austin Goetsch (21st, 21:04); Aaron Ebert (27th, 23:07); Glen Walborn (32nd, 24:17); and Tristan Singer (33rd, 24:29).

This wasn’t the only time that all three teams will compete in the same meet. The Comet, T-Birds and Indians will be in Waupaca, Thursday, Oct. 3, for the Waupaca Invitational, which begins at 4:30 p.m. at Waupaca High School.
