Comets split pair of 1-0 games

One goal. That’s all the Waupaca boys’ soccer team could come up with against Freedom, but it was enough for the Comets to hand the Irish a 1-0 defeat Sept. 23 in an Eastern Valley Conference matchup.

Waupaca also came out on the short end of a 1-0 score Sept. 17 in Ripon.

Waupaca 1, Freedom 0

FREEDOM – Ben Stone scored an unassisted goal early in the second half.

Neither team had many shot opportunities, as Comet goalkeeper Steven Canterbury and Freedom’s Wil Christensen had six saves each.

Ripon 1, Waupaca 0

RIPON – Ben Pulvermacher unassisted goal on a corner kick lifted the Tigers over the Comets.

The Comets will host Hortonville at 7 tonight (Thursday) in nonconference action before Sheboygan Falls, New London and Prairie Seeds Academy, Minn., head to Waupaca for a quadrangular that gets under way at 9 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 28.

Waupaca will return to EVC play Tuesday, Oct. 1, with a 7 p.m. home match against Little Chute.

The conference game with Clintonville that was called off Sept. 19 due to the weather has been rescheduled for 5 p.m. Monday, Oct. 7, in Waupaca.
