Pastries a highlight of annual event

The Lost Arts/Taste of Norway event hosted by the Iola Historical Society on Oct. 5 featured the cooking talents of ladies from the Northland Lutheran Church.

For the last two years, the ladies have contributed to the Taste of Norway portion of the event by providing cooking demonstrations of traditional Norway pastries and free samples.

The pastries are so popular that the ladies usually run out of samples before the event concludes. To avoid running out for 2013, they prepared more materials ahead of time.

During the event, the ladies explained step-by-step how to create various Norwegian pastries, including rosettes, krumkake, sand bakkel and fattigmann cookies. They also shared recipes, tips and unique techniques.
