Waupaca man charged with battery

Kyle M. Overson, 38, Waupaca, was charged with substantial battery, disorderly conduct and two counts of misdemeanor bail jumping.

Overson is accused of beating a 60-year-old man severely enough to send him to the hospital.

On Aug. 28, Overson appeared in court on misdemeanor charges of battery, disorderly conduct and criminal damage to property. He was released on a $1,000 signature bond.

On the evening of Sept. 25, Waupaca Police Officer Wesley Zube was dispatched to the corner of Ware and Oborn streets. A woman had called 911 and reported finding a man who was bloody from a beating.

The man was taken to Riverside Medical Center where he was treated for fractured ribs, contusions and lacerations on his face and mouth, a left eye that was swollen shut and broken teeth.

According to the criminal complaint, Overson had been staying at the man’s apartment. On Sept. 25, the man had told Overson he was no longer welcome and needed to move out.

Overson left, then returned with alcohol in an apparent attempt to persuade the man to allow himn to stay. When the man said he still wanted Overson to leave, Oveson allegedly jumped on top of him and punched him repeatedly in the face and chest.

The injured man blacked out during the beating. He came to and crawled out of the house.
