Clintonville girls headed to state

Clintonville’s girls’ squad has advanced to the WIAA State Cross Country Meet, set for Saturday, Nov. 2, at Ridges Golf Course in Wisconsin Rapids.

Clintonville had three top-10 runners to win the girls’ title Oct. 26 at a Division 2 sectional in Waupaca. Jessica Petruzates, Allison Johnson and Sara Messner placed sixth, ninth and 10th, respectively, while the rest of the team included Brianna Gretzinger, Danielle Kiefer, Katie Collier and Aubrey Netzel.

“The team worked hard for this. It was a true team effort,” said Coach Jeff Crumbaugh. “We had to overcome many obstacles to become Sectional Champs and we are grateful to all those who have helped us. We have not really rested all season long so we will taper off this week and race on fresh legs this Saturday in Wisconsin Rapids. The girls are really excited to go to state and hope to do well there.”
