WMS student wins poster contest

Hunter Abhold, a student at Waupaca Middle School, won $25 for the local Peace Poster Contest, sponsored by the Waupaca Lioness Club.

Bailey Colden placed second, winning $15 in the competition.

The Peace Poster contest is an annual, international art contest to encourage children to express their visions of peace. More than 8 million children from nearly 100 countries have participated in the contest since it began 25 years ago.

The theme of the 2013-14 Peace Poster Contest is “Our World, Our Future.” Students, ages 11, 12 or 13 are eligible to participate. Each poster is judged on originality, artistic merit and expression of the theme.

Abhold’s poster will be submitted to compete at the district level, and if successful, will make its way through regional and international rounds.

One grand prize winner and 23 merit winners will be selected from approximately 400,000 young participants worldwide.

The Lioness Club meets the third Monday of each month at Simpson’s Restaurant, with a 5:30 p.m. social hour and 6 p.m. dinner. To learn more about the activities and membership opportunities, contact Marg Nelson at 920-867-3693, or Teresa Duda at 715-258-8301.
