Christmas delivery in King

Residents of the Wisconsin Veterans Home at King will receive a special Christmas greeting this holiday season.

A total of 750 Christmas cards were delivered there Monday, Dec. 2, meaning every veteran who lives at the home will receive a card.

“This is just fabulous,” said Vicky Scherck, an associate in the veterans home’s volunteer office. “The members are just going to be so happy with this. We will make sure they know where they came from.”

Employees who work at East Wisconsin Savings Bank were behind it.

“We have an employee holiday giving program. We raise money and give donations,” said Debi Bartel, who is the human resources director of the bank.

East Wisconsin Savings Bank has locations throughout the Fox Cities, and Bartel said the employees have done such things as adopt families and collect food for food pantries.

Patty Roloff, the bank’s vice president-lending, said they have also made fleece blankets which were then given to hospitals to support people going through chemotherapy, as well as for neonatal units.

“This year, we decided to do something new,” Bartel said.

The grandparents of one of employees were at the Wisconsin Veterans Home at King, and the decision was made to give Christmas cards to all of the veterans this year.

Bartel, who lives in the town of Lind, and Roloff, who lives in the town of Mukwa, delivered all of the cards on Monday afternoon.

Their gift will be appreciated by the veterans.

“We do have some members who do not receive cards at Christmas,” Scherck said.

She said others who would like to donate cards for the veterans may drop them off at the volunteer office, which is located in the Marden Memorial Center.
