W-F wrestlers dealing with low numbers

With low numbers and a lack of varsity experience, things aren’t exactly looking up this season for the Weyauwega-Fremont wrestling team.

The roster includes only 15 wrestlers, coach Tim Potratz said.

“Last year’s team finished with a 12-10 record in duals and a fifth-place finish in the Central Wisconsin Conference,” he said. “Gone from that team are five graduated seniors, including conference champion and state qualifier Trevor Potratz, two-time sectional qualifier Tre Blohm, four-year letterman Nick Thomas, Isaac Danke and Tyler Hart, who together combined to win 256 matches.”

The Indians will open the season at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 5, in Keshena against Menominee Indian.

Returning wrestlers include seniors Brandon Loehrke (29 wins last season) and Andy Pribbernow (10 wins), who will wrestle at 152 and 170 pounds, respectively.

Also back are juniors Oliver Radtke (32 wins), a two-time sectional qualifier, at 132 pounds and Andy Bork (13 wins), who will wrestle at 285 pounds.

Sophomores with some varsity experience include Jon Morgan, Austin Baehnman, Bailey Balistreire and Austin Marker.

“The remaining weights will have to be filled with freshman or newcomers to the program,” Potratz said.

As far as a clear-cut favorite in the CWC, Potratz doesn’t have one.

“Favorites will be defending champion Wittenberg-Birnamwood, Bonduel, Shiocton and Menominee Indian,” he said. “Weyauwega-Fremont will battle to win matches this year with as many as three or four forfeits in the lineup.”
