Sharing the Christmas spirit

The Weyauwega-Fremont Christmas Giving Tree program provided gifts and food for 99 area families this year.

The distribution took place on Saturday, Dec. 14, at Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, in Weyauwega.

It was organized by Knights of Columbus Council No. 13702, with assistance from the St. Anne Society.

Families received clothing, toys, a $10 voucher for the local St. Vincent De Paul store and food, including a ham and 10 pounds of potatoes.

Area businesses, churches, civic groups, students and residents donate money, food and gifts to support the annual program.

Last year, the program provided gifts and food for 97 families.

“The number of families is up, and the number of donations is down, so next year, we’re going to start two months earlier,” said Don Planz, one of the program’s volunteers.
