Thorn, Bruce R.

Bruce R. Thorn, age 59, passed away Sunday December 15th, 2013 at Gundersen Lutheran Hospital in La Crosse, WI.

Bruce was born on November 8th, 1954, in Tigerton WI, a son of Ruben Walter Thorn and Anna Louise Olson. After high school Bruce joined the United States Navy in 1974 and was a sub sailor on the USS Gudgeon and the USS Pigeon until his honorable discharge in 1979. Bruce also received his technical training as an electronics technician radar second class during his time with the Navy, became a journeyman electrician and was an IBEW union Local 577 worker for over 20 years. Bruce was also an active member of the American Legion Post #14, Iola WI. He loved watching the Brewers and traveling to watch MLB spring training in Florida and Arizona. Bruce was an avid Scandinavia Viking fan throughout his life rarely missing a local game to cheer on his home team. Bruce enjoyed spending time with his kids, going on fishing trips, to baseball games and hunting with his son. He was also proud of his Norwegian heritage and could usually be seen wearing Norseman attire with a Packer or Brewer cap on.

Bruce is survived by his three children Tabitha (Zach) Klatt of Manawa, Kari (Erik) Gay of Waupaca and Anthony Thorn (Sam Kuisle) of Chanhassen, MN and 3 grandchildren Mary Joe, E-Rob and Lily Pad and a brother Daniel (Janet) Thorn of Raleigh South Carolina, sister Teckla (David) Whittaker, Scandinavia and special friend Valerie Fay, Scandinavia.

A Memorial prayer service will be held for Bruce on Saturday December 21st at Scandinavia Lutheran Church in Scandinavia, WI at 11:00 am with visitation from 9:30 am until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established. Bruce’s children would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at Gundersen Lutheran Hospital for the kindness and generosity provided during this difficult time.
