Christmas cards sent to wounded soldiers

Learman-Schaller Auxiliary to Post 2732 New London worked with four elementary schools to make handmade Christmas cards for wounded soldiers in Walter Reed Hospital in Bethesda, MD and Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Landstuhl, Germany.

The program was called “To Make A Wounded Soldiers Day”. The children that made these cards ranged from 4K-4th graders.

“The kids did such amazing job on these cards. They put so much thought and love into them,” said Bonnie Hilt of the VFW Auxiliary. “In total we sent 857 cards to both of these hospitals. One box went to Germany with 100 cards and two boxes went to Maryland with the rest. We appreciate the help from all of the children and staff that assisted in making these cards.”

Participating schools included Lincoln Elementary, Sugar Bush Elementary, Parkview Elementary and Readfield Elementary.

“May all our soldiers have a blessed Christmas and be home with their families very soon,” stated Hilt. “God bless all our troops. Merry Christmas to all from the ladies of the VFW Auxiliary 2732.”
