Comets still winless at home

Maybe the Waupaca boys’ hockey team should look into scheduling its games on the road.

The Comets defeated Neenah/Hortonville/Menasha 5-0 Dec. 19 in Neenah, but dropped a 4-2 Great Northern Conference decision two days earlier to Antigo.

It was the home loss in as many games.

NEENAH – Jared Erickson had a hat trick and two assists, as he found the net for short-handed, power play and even-strength goals.

Ben Stone and Frankie Ellingson also had goals for the Comets, while Zane Johnson, Austin Erickson and Max Menzies had assists and goalie Walker Smith finished with 22 saves.

Antigo 4, Waupaca 2

WAUPACA – Waupaca took a 1-0 lead in the first period on Austin Erickson’s goal that came off of an assist from Stone, but the Red Robins responded with four unanswered goals.

Bailey Olson, Elijah Wickersheim and Alex Nagel scored in the second period, while Olson gave the visitors a 4-1 lead in the third period.

Ellingson scored in the final minute to cut the deficit to two goals, but the Comets couldn’t get any closer.

The Comets will head to the Stevens Point Invitational for games Friday and Saturday, Jan. 3-4.
