Leona Petersen, Scandinavia, Wisconsin, age 99, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 21, 2013 at Weyauwega Health Care Center.
She was born September 16, 1914 in the Town of Scandinavia, WI; daughter of Martin and Emma (Olson) Olson. On December 1, 1934, Leona married Axel Petersen in Waupaca and they shared 64 years of marriage before his passing on February 20, 1999. She will be deeply missed by all of her loving family and friends.
Leona is survived by: daughter, Dorothy Bassett of Apple Valley, MN; granddaughter, Kelly (Bobby) Johnson of St. Paul, MN; two nieces, Darlene (George) Kriewaldt of Iola, WI and Pat (Tom) Breyer of Oconomowoc, WI; nephew, Gene (Arlene) Levandoski of Racine, WI. Leona was preceded in death by her parents, Martin and Emma Olson; her husband, Axel Petersen; a son, Charles Petersen; two sisters, Evelyn Johnson and Luella Louison; and three brothers, Orrie, Ellery, and Irving Olson.
A Funeral Service will be on Friday, January 10, 2014 at 2:00 PM at Trinity Lutheran Church in Waupaca, WI. Reverend Dr. Charles L. Tews will officiate. A visitation will be held on Friday from 1:00 – 2:00 PM at the church. Burial will be at Lakeside Memorial Park in Waupaca following the service on Friday. The Holly Funeral Home of Waupaca is assisting the family with arrangements.
