Tews, John H.

John H. Tews, King, Wisconsin, formerly of Catawba and Tomahawk, WI, age 81, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, December 26, 2013 at the Wisconsin Veterans Home in King, WI.

He was born June 23, 1932 in Kennan, Price Co., WI; son of John F. and Minnie (Finnern) Tews. John served in the U.S. Army from May 8, 1953 – April 21, 1956. On December 29, 1995, John married Karen (TenPas) Belongia in Rhinelander, WI. He served many years as past president on the church board at Zion Lutheran Church in Kennan, WI. Additionally, he was a member of the Lion’s Club in Catawba and American Legion Post # 161 of King, WI. John enjoyed singing for weddings and funerals and also was part of the community choir in Ogema, WI. In July 2010, John and Karen moved to the Waupaca area where they became members of Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church of Waupaca. John will be deeply missed by all of his loving family and many friends.

John is survived by: his wife, Karen Tews of Waupaca, WI; daughter, Aimee Monday of Appleton, WI; son, Warren (fiancée, Erin Russell) Tews of Stevens Point, WI; step-daughter, Denise Belongia of Wautoma, WI; five grandchildren: Nikki (fiancé, Patrick Riedel) Daehne of Eau Claire, WI; Aaron Monday of Waupaca, WI; Andrew (Rochelle) Kuczmarski of Superior, WI; Luke and Alex Pfingsten of Gleason, WI; brother, Robert Tews of Washington; and a sister, Ruby Kolvitz of Addison, IL. Also, survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Minnie Tews; his first wife, Ethel Tews; two brothers, Lyle and Marvin Tews; and two sisters, Leona Schuh and Irma Werner.

A Funeral Service will be on Thursday, January 2, 2014 at 1:30 PM at the Main Chapel at the Wisconsin Veterans Home in King, WI followed by full military honors. Chaplain Wayne Schwanke will officiate. A visitation will be held on Thursday from 10:00 AM – 1:30 PM at the Main Chapel. Burial will be at the Central WI Veterans Memorial Cemetery in King following the service on Thursday. The Holly Funeral Home of Waupaca is assisting the family with arrangements.
