New London beats Seymour

A strong first half and dominating third quarter helped the Lady Bulldog varsity basketball team cruise to a 47-31 win over the Seymour Thunder on Friday, Jan. 3.

New London led 9-6 after one quarter and 24-12 at halftime. They blew the game open by outscoring Seymour 12-5 in the third quarter.

The Thunder outscored the Lady Bulldogs 14-11 in the final frame, but it was too little, too late as the Lady Bulldogs earned the win.

Payton Mix led the team with 16 points. Mickey Roland added 11, Leah Porath scored six, Gretl Steingraber added five, Amber Pethke tallied three, and Cassidy Pethke, Cambria Fitzgerald and Lexi Roland all scored two points.

New London made 16 of 40 shots (40 percent) and 5 of 10 (50 percent) from 3-point range. The Lady Bulldogs also made 10 of 11 free throws (90 percent).

As a team, New London grabbed 18 rebounds and had six steals while turning the ball over 19 times.

The Lady Bulldogs play at home on Thursday, Jan. 9. Opening tip is set for 7:15 p.m.
