Truckers edge Foxes

A low-scoring affair saw the Trucker boys varsity basketball team snatch a 26-23 win from the hosting Fox Valley Lutheran Foxes on Friday, Jan. 3.

Clintonville held an 8-6 advantage after one quarter and led 13-11 at halftime.

FVL regained the lead by outscoring Clintonville 8-3 in the third quarter, but the Truckers battled back to outscore FVL 10-4 in the final quarter, earning a three-point victory.

The Truckers made 10 of 28 shots (35 percent) and hit 3 of 10 (30 percent) from 3-point range. The Truckers struggled at the free throw line, making just 3 of 13 attempts (23 percent).

Clintonville held a 25-23 advantage in rebounding and had eight steals, compared to FVL’s four. The Truckers blocked four shots and forced 14 turnovers while committing 12 turnovers of their own.

Turner Doornink scored 12 points to lead the Truckers. Andy Schmidt added six points and 10 deflections, Emmett Battenberg scored five, Tyler Petermann scored two points and grabbed 10 rebounds, and Parker Mindel scored one point.

The Truckers play at home on Thursday, Jan. 9, with opening tip set for 7:15 p.m.
