County issues tow ban, advises to stay off roads

The Waupaca County Sheriff’s Department is suggesting no travel on roads in Waupaca County unless it is absolutely necessary.

On Wednesday, Jan. 22, Sheriff Brad Hardel said the county’s Communications Center received reports of 30 accidents in the county since 6 a.m. today.

Roads are anticipated to remain ice covered and extremely slippery. Salt applied to the roadways by the county’s Highway Department is not working due to the temperature.

A number of rollover and injury accidents continue to occur on U.S. Highway 10. All those who are driving – especially those driving on U.S. 10 – need to reduce their speed considerably.

Waupaca County has issued a tow ban because of the dangerous conditions.

Tow trucks will not be allowed to tow vehicles from the ditch at this time until road conditions improve.

Roads have become ice covered because of the snow that fell early this morning.
