New dean of students in Manawa

The Manawa School Board unanimously approved the appointment of James R. Quinn to the position of High School Dean of Students.

The appointment comes roughly one month after Karl Morrin resigned as Little Wolf High School Principal.

Quinn’s appointment runs from Jan. 6 through June 5, or through the last day of school for the 2013-14 school year.

The agreement calls for Quinn to receive $25 per hour. He can work a maximum of 25 hours per week. His hours can be extended with permission of the district administrator. The agreement also states Quinn will receive no benefits.

At the meeting, Quinn gave the board an update of his first two weeks on the job.

“Maybe I look at the world through rose colored glasses but I’ve had a lot of positive reinforcement from the staff, from students, from people in general,” Quinn said. “They’re liking what’s going on. I think the biggest thing is I’m very visible.”

Quinn told the board he isn’t always sitting in his office.

“I try to make it a point to say “hi” to most of the students everyday if I can,” Quinn said. “It kind of surprises them sometimes.”

He said he doesn’t do anything alone, that he wants to work with the staff to do things.

“I’m happy being here. I really appreciate the opportunity to be with the students of the School District of Manawa again,” Quinn said.
