Irish hold Comets to 14 points

Waupaca’s girls’ basketball team held Freedom to under 40 points.

Unfortunately, the Comets were only able to score 14 and came out on the shot end of a 39-14 Eastern Valley Conference game Feb. 1.

Waupaca also fell to Fox Valley Lutheran 52-26 Jan. 30.

FREEDOM – Half of Waupaca’s points came in the first quarter, as the teams went into the second period tied at 7-7. However, the Irish held the Comets scoreless in the second quarter and outscored them 8-4 in the third quarter and 19-3 in the fourth.

Sydney Brooks scored eight points to lead Waupaca.

FVL 52, Waupaca 26

WAUPACA – Waupaca led the state-ranked Foxes 11-10 after the first quarter, but FVL outscored the home team 25-4 in the second quarter and 17-11 in the second half.

Lizzi Hanke led Waupaca with seven points.

The Comets played at Winneconne Feb. 4 and will head to Berlin Friday, Feb. 7, before hosting Tomahawk at 7:15 p.m. Monday, Feb. 10.
