David F. Kopecky, 1944-2014, Iola, Wisconsin

By Jennifer Kopecky

My dear husband David passed away Saturday morning February 1st at the age of 69. These last few months were difficult, as he battled leukemia, heart congestion and a terrible lung infection, yet through it all, he never lost his wonderful sense of humor (which was one of the many things I loved most about him.)

I met Dave on a dare. My girlfriend and I were at a bar in Clintonville. She challenged me to dance with the next man that walked through its’ doors. Lucky for me it was Dave. Before he had two feet in the place we were in each others arms dancing. After; I thanked him for being a good sport and bought him a drink. I remember staring at him across the room, and noticed that he was doing the same. Before the night ended, we exchanged phone numbers and were married 3 months later.

He was the best 37 years of my life. We were blessed with three wonderful children and grandchildren, which we are both very proud of. By trade Dave was an artist. He was extremely talented at many things. If it was broken, he could fix it. He enjoyed restoring old cars, collecting rare and sometimes odd pieces from the past. He considered himself an old film buff and even built the house we live in. My family and I greatly miss him. I pray that God gives us the strength, comfort and guidance we will surely need in the days to come. Thank You dear friends for your love and support, it’s very healing. Before I end, I’d like to share a verse, from a greeting card that I bought for Dave many years ago. It seems to sum up our relationship perfectly.

“You’re still the one I stare at across a crowded room

You’re still the one I run away with in my dreams

You’re still the one who fills my life with excitement, laughter and love

Who captured my heart when we first met…

and has left me spell bound ever since.”

Love Jennifer.

Survivors include: wife, Jennifer Kopecky of Iola; children: Jerry (Sara) Kopecky of Iola, Lynn (Tim) O’Donnell of Northwoods, Ill.; Susan Kopecky of Iola, and three grandchildren: Nathan, Rachel, Ashley. A Memorial Service will be held at the Voie Funeral Home in Iola at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 8th, 2014 with Reverend Vicki Natzke officiating. Memorial Visitation will be held on Saturday from 10-11 a.m. at the funeral home. Register Book and online condolences may be sent by visiting www.voiefuneralhome.com
