Bulldogs beat Vikings

Ryan Wolf scored 13 points, Jacob Pinch added 10 and Alex Thiemer dropped in nine to help the Bulldog boys’ varsity basketball team earn a 43-38 win in overtime against the Denmark Vikings on Friday, Feb. 7.

Sam Porath contributed four points, Ty Barrington added three, and Ryan Krueger and Tyler Jagiello both scored two.

“Both teams had trouble scoring; however, we did better in the third quarter,” said Coach Ken Jagiello. “The shots we missed in the first half now went in. The game remained close and Sam Porath made a shot to tie the game late in the fourth quarter. In overtime, Ryan Wolf made the first five points to give us the lead and we held on for the win. It was a big win on the road.”

The Bulldogs made 17 of 42 shots (40 percent) and hit 5 of 19 from beyond the arc (26 percent). The team made 4 of 15 free throws (27 percent).

New London snagged 26 rebounds, had 10 assists, picked seven steals and turned the ball over just six times.

New London 61, Marinette 50

The Bulldog boys’ varsity basketball team earned a 61-50 win over the visiting Marinette Marines on Monday, Feb. 10.

Ryan Wolf led the team with 14 points, while Jacob Pinch added 13 and Ryan Krueger netted nine. Nick Thomas and Tyler Jagiello both scored eight points, Ty Barrington added four, Alex Thiemer tallied three, and Sam Porath dropped in two points.

New London made 24 of 45 shots (53 percent), including 5 of 14 from 3-point land (36 percent). The team also made 8 of 14 free throws (57 percent).

New London had a 29-24 rebounding advantage and had 13 assists to Marinette’s 10. The Bulldogs earned seven steals and turned the ball over just five times. The Bulldogs also blocked five shots and committed 15 fouls.

“We played very well in the second and third quarters and had a 20-point lead at one time,” said Coach Ken Jagiello. “Our defense in the fourth quarter was disappointing; however, we held on for the 11-point win. It was a good effort by the players.”
