Judicial candidates forum March 12

A forum presenting the candidates for Waupaca County Circuit Court judge is slated from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, March 12, at the Manawa Masonic Center, 520 N. Bridge St., Manawa.

The two remaining candidates for judge are Keith Steckbauer, who was appointed to the seat but must be elected to continue holding it, and Vicki Taggatz Clussman, an assistant district attorney in Waupaca County.

Organizers of the event note that everyone in Waupaca County is impacted by circuit court decisions.

Current issues that may find their way into Waupaca County Circuit Court include whether or not to remove the dam that once created the Little Hope Mill Pond and the proposed sand mine in the town of Union.

Over the past few years, the circuit court heard some high-profile cases ranging from homicides to deer slayings. Although these cases make headlines, the circuit court spends much of its time on cases that include traffic citations, probate, divorces, civil lawsuits and child protection issues.

The forum will be moderated by attorney David L. Forsythe of the law firm of Omholt & Forsythe S.C., of Iola and Manawa.

The free public event is hosted by the Waupaca County Bar Association in conjunction with Waupaca County UW-Extension.
