New London girls win conference title

The Bulldogs dominated the first half of their game against the Shawano Hawks Tuesday, Feb. 25, as the defense didn’t allow the Hawks to score a single point during the entire first half of play.

New London led 24-0 after one quarter and 37-0 at halftime.

The Hawks outscored the Bulldogs 12-8 in the third quarter, but New London bounced back to outscore Shawano 13-10 in the final quarter of play.

Mickey Roland led New London with 15 points, while Leah Porath added 14. Payton Mix scored eight, Lexi Roland added six, Caitlin Schmidt tallied four, and Maddie Sanderfoot, Cassidy Pethke, Maddie Schroeder, Cambria Fitzgerald and Amber Pethke all scored two. Gretl Steingraber added one point.

The Bulldogs made 23 of 56 shots (41 percent), including 5 of 7 from 3-point range (71 percent). The team also sank 5 of 9 free throw attempts (55 percent).

New London gathered 27 rebounds, tallied 12 assists, grabbed 16 steals, blocked one shot, turned the ball over eight times, and committed 15 fouls.

New London 46, Hortonville 34

The Bulldogs trailed 9-7 after one quarter but held a 20-17 lead at halftime. In the third quarter, New London outscored Hortonville 17-7. Hortonville outscored New London 10-9 in the fourth quarter, but New London emerged with a 46-34 victory.

Mix led New London with 10 points and 10 rebounds, while Steingraber also netted 10 points. Mickey Roland scored eight and grabbed 11 rebounds and Lexi Roland also scored eight points.

Porath and Amber Pethke both dropped in four points and Fitzgerald tallied two to round out the scoring.
