Expand high school greenhouse to year-round venture

In speaking with several residents, the weather is a major concern for several who suffer from Seasonal Affective Disorder. This has been an exceptionally cold and dismal season.

I notice that the high school has a greenhouse project already in progress. However, my idea would be to expand that project to include a year-round greenhouse, or dome (as in Mitchell Park, Milwaukee) that features flowers and trees with landscaping arrangements.

I realize this is a tremendous undertaking.

However, if a grant was written for funding, and if the community became involved, it just might be possible.

This would be a respite in any season. It should also include the special lamps for Seasonal Affective Disorder.

I can see this as a tourist attraction. I can see this as a field trip for nursing home patients and residents. I see this as a way to escape the harshness of winter.

The students would benefit from its beauty.

I can also see a coffee bar inside and tables and chairs, and pershaps small sandwiches, etc.

A small coffee and sandwich offering could be used as a source of income for students who work there, and the greenhouse.

The Domes in Milwaukee are used for many different events, even weddings. That could be another source of income.

Those visiting the domes could be placed in a study that questions their visits as positive or negative and helps ease the dread of winter and lessens the feelings of Seasonal Affective Disorder.

I do hope you consider this idea. I am also sending a copy of this to Waupaca Parks and Recreation as well as Waupaca City Hall. As I stated before, a project like this would most likely be a joint effort.
