Rodeo City Riders celebrate 50 years

The Rodeo City Riders celebrated their 50th year at the Land Owner’s Appreciation Banquet.

“This is a time to celebrate families and the joy of riding horses,” said Dennis Tully.

Tully went on to say that the original goal of the organization is to promote horsemanship, trail riding, horse shows and to one day have a drill team.

“I am proud to say that we have achieved all that,” he said.

Four of the founding members – Don Knutson, Monica Gebheim, Carol Krueger and Jean Schuelke – were in attendance at the banquet.

Schuelke was recognized for naming the club back in 1969.

“I’m glad that everyone liked it and that it stuck,” she said.

Other name choices included: Tired Hoss Club, Saddlelites and the Bit and Spur Club.

“Some of those names seem so silly now. Rodeo City Riders is a good fit for our community,” Schuelke said.

Receiving year-end awards at the banquet were: Tiny Tot Award – Josh Mackowiak; Junior Division – Cora Mackowiak, 1st ; Mia Wandtke, 2nd; Anna Schmude, 5th; Lead Line Division – Kelsie Davis, 1st; Daniel Swan, 2nd; Senior Divison – Tim Cluever, 1st; Allan Swan, 2nd; Senior Division – Tonya Kasper, 3rd; Kelly Morris, 4th; Lindsey Kutchenriter, 5th; Senior Senior Division – Robbie Rachwall, 1st; Sue Meidam, 2nd.
