Iola man charged with felony theft

A former employee of Alter Metal Recycling in Waupaca has been accused of stealing nearly $3,000 from the company.

Kirk L.W. Preuss, 35, Iola, is charged with felony theft.

On Feb. 5, Detective Sgt. Brian Hoelzel, with the Waupaca Police Department, met with the regional director of operations for Alter Trading, which is based in Green Bay and operates a facility in Waupaca.

The regional director said the company had evidence that Preuss was responsible for numerous fraudulent transactions.

Preuss allegedly brought metal to the scrap yard, weighed it twice and paid both himself and the customer for the product.

In one incident, Preuss claimed that black plastic bags filled with aluminum cans contained scrap copper, according to the criminal complaint.
