Morrissey, R.H.S.J., Sister Margaret

Sister Margaret Morrissey died peacefully at the Sisters of Providence Motherhouse, Kingston, Ontario on Monday, March 17, 2014.

Sister was 90 years of age of which 67 years were spent in Religious Life. Sister Morrissey was born in Ottawa, ON, the daughter of Bernadette Mooney and John Thomas Morrissey. Sister is predeceased by her parents, her sisters: Marjorie, Anges (Huot), Mary (Meloche), and Bernadette, and her brother John. Sister Margaret is survived by her sister Elizabeth Lowden of Kanata, ON as well as many loving nieces and nephews and grand-nieces and nephews. After entering the Congregation of Religious Hospitallers of St. Joseph, Sister continued her education, first becoming a Registered Nurse graduating from Hotel Dieu School of Nursing in Kingston and then graduating as a Pharmacist in 1956 from the University of Toronto. Sister served her congregation as Mistress of Junior Professed and Postulants, in Administration in Chicago, Ill, and New London, WI, and at the Provincial Level as Councillor. Sister was the Local Superior for the RHSJ community and the Executive Director of St. Joseph’s Residence from 1979 to 1982. Sister Morrissey was the Provincial Treasurer, St. Joseph Province, for 27 years and served on hospital Boards of Directors and on various committees throughout her career.

Friends and family will be received at Mary, Mother of Compassion Chapel, Sisters of Providence Motherhouse, 1200 Princess Street, Kingston, Ontario on Thursday, March 20th from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. and 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. with a Vigil Service at 7:00 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Mary, Mother of Compassion Chapel on March 21, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. Rite of Committal prayers in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Kingston.
