Fermanich, Betty J.

Betty J. Fermanich, age 87, of New London, died on Saturday, March 29, 2014 at Fox River Care Center in Appleton.

She was born on March 26, 1927, in the Town of Wolf River, the daughter of the late Henry and Ruth (Velte) Springer. On October 2, 1947, Betty married Leon Fermanich at Most Precious Blood Catholic Church in New London. He preceded her in death in November 1996. Betty was currently a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ in New London, and their Women’s Fellowship group. She was a member of Wolf River American Legion Auxiliary Post 391 in Fremont, and was a former member of the PTA. Betty enjoyed gardening, sewing, travelling, crafts, and baking.

She is survived by five children: Sharon (Paul) Harwood, Appleton; Judy (Tim) Scheibe, Appleton; Jerry (Kathy) Fermanich, New London; Mark (Nora Flood)Fermanich, Evergreen, CO; and Amy (Malcome) Hathorne, New London; eight grandchildren: Robert (Lynn) Roehrborn, Shelby Skalmoski (special friend, Dan Henslien), Adam (Melanie) Skalmoski, Matt Fermanich, Amanda (Craig) Farrell, Hanna and Emma Hathorne; nine great-grandchildren: Sophia, Skylar, Carter, Savannah, Kane, Eli, Bradley, Idalis, and Carter; five step-grandchildren, and their families; a cousin, LaVerne Utecht; other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by a sister, Margie.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday April 2, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at First Congregational United Church of Christ, 110 W. Hancock St., New London. Rev. Greg Watling will officiate. Burial will be in Wolf River Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. A memorial fund has been established for First Congregational United Church of Christ. Lewin Funeral Home, Fremont is assisting the family with arrangements.
