Satas, Veronika

Veronika Satas, age 86, of Fremont, died unexpectedly on Sunday, March 30, 2014, in Shawano.

She was born on February 3, 1928, in Lithuania, the daughter of the late Kazimioras and Alexandria Povilaitis. In 1957, Veronika came to the United States and lived in Chicago, IL. On June 28, 1965, she married Frank Satas. They lived in Chicago and owned their own tavern called Frank’s Tavern, as well as managed three apartment buildings until their retirement in 1975. On February 22, 1972, Veronika received her Certificate of Naturalization. After retirement Frank and Veronika moved to Fremont.

Veronika was a very special lady who had a big heart, and whose door was always open. She enjoyed fishing, playing cards with her friends, cooking for special occasions with family and friends, as well as spending time with her grandson, Tony (Katrina) Dering and great-granddaughter, Courtney Dering.

Veronika is survived by her grandson, Tony (Katrina) Dering, Fremont; a great-granddaughter, Courtney Dering, Fremont; a step-daughter, Aldona (Bruce) Babbitt, and their daughter, Agnese, and three-step great-grandchildren, Jaelin, Joey (special friend, Sunny), and Savannah; Delaware; a sister-in-law, Henryka Povilaitis, Rochester , NY; a niece and nephew in Rochester, NY and two nieces and their families in Lithuania. Veronika was preceded in death by her husband, Frank; her son, Richard Matiukas; a step-daughter, Bernice Dering; two brothers, George and Bronus; a sister, Onute; and a brother-in-law, Tony Satas.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 3, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at the Lewin Funeral Home, Fremont. Pastor Alex Tychkin will officiate. Burial will be in Wolf River Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday, at the funeral home, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. A memorial fund has been established for Hope United Church of Christ, Fremont.
