Check fraud case totals $1,680

An 18-year-old Shiocton woman is charged with eight counts of forgery uttering.

Courtney L. Fuss is accused of taking checks from the closed bank account of a former roommate, signing the roommate’s name on them, and cashing them at the New London branch of a credit union for a total of $1,680.

The memo line on the checks indicated the payment was for babysitting.

On March 13, the branch manager reported the checks to New London Police Officer Josh Wilson.

On March 22, Officer Christopher Dearth pulled Fuss over for a vehicle violation.

Wilson met Dearth at the traffic stop and took Fuss into custody.

When Wilson interviewed her, Fuss admitted to cashing the checks.
