W-F splits softball games

Weyauwega-Fremont’s softball team recently split a pair of Central Wisconsin 8 Conference games with Manawa and Shiocton.

The Indians picked up an 8-0 win at Manawa April 11, one day after coming out on the short end of a 14-4 contest in Shiocton.

MANAWA – A four-run seventh inning helped the Indians knock off the Wolves.

W-F scored in the first and second innings before adding two more in the fifth.

Katie Ponto scattered five hits to get the win on the mound. Karissa Akey had two of the Indians’ four hits and Kori Looker scored three runs. The Indians also took advantage of six Manawa errors.

Aubrey Millard had two hits to lead Manawa at the plate.

Shiocton 14, W-F 4 (6 inn.)

SHIOCTON – Whitney Schmidt drove in six runs to lead Shiocton to the win.

The Chiefs scored five times in the second before sealing the win with six more in the sixth. W-F scored twice in the third and twice in the fifth.

Akey had two of the Indians’ hits, including a home run. Jordan Krause had W-F’s two other hits.
