Shiocton too much for Thunderbirds

Shiocton scored 10 runs in the first two innings and went on to an easy 13-0 Central Wisconsin 8 Conference softball win over Iola-Scandinavia April 17.

The game was stopped after the fifth inning due to the ten-run rule.

Freshmen pitcher Sydney Wilcox didn’t allow a hit until Brianne Huettner reached in the fifth inning. She didn’t walk a batter and finished with eight strikeouts.

Sam Schmidt belted a three-run home run for the Chiefs and drove in a team-high six runs.

Huettner took the loss for the Thunderbirds. She gave up 13 hits and seven walks while striking out six.

The T-Birds fell to 1-1 in conference play and 4-5 overall. The I-S junior varsity team also lost to Shiocton 22-8 and fell to 0-4 on the season.

Sydney Wilcox gave up one hit in five innings and struck out eight to blank the Thunderbirds.

I-S will play at Stevens Point Pacelli at 4:30 p.m. today (Thursday, April 24). The team will also play a pair of nonconference games Saturday, April 26, against Auburndale at 9 a.m. and Tigerton at 12:30 p.m.

The T-Birds will also travel to Amherst Monday, April 28, and Wittenberg-Birnamwood Thursday, May 1, with both CWC-8 games starting at 4:30 p.m.
