Indians win softball invitational

The Weyauwega-Fremont softball team is on a roll after winning its own invitational.

W-F opened the April 26 tournament with an 11-0 win over Rosholt and wrapped up the championship later in the day with a 2-1 win over Wrightstown.

The Indians also picked up a 10-7 Central Wisconsin 8 Conference win over Wittenberg-Birnamwood April 22, but dropped a 9-7 decision two days later in Bonduel.

Jade Schroeder and Jordan Rucks each had two hits for the Indians.

The Indians came up with both of their runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Wrightstown cut the lead to 2-1 with a run in the sixth, but never got any closer.

Rucks and Kori Looker each had two of the Indians’ six hits in the game, while Brandi Dain drove in both runs. Karissa Akey picked up the win on the mound.

The Indians were scheduled to host Stevens Point Pacelli April 28, but that game was rained out. W-F is scheduled to play at Amherst at 4:30 p.m. today (Thursday, May 1) before heading to Mosinee Friday, May 2, for a 5 p.m. nonconference game.
