Duane D.
Schmidt, age 83, of Fremont, passed away on Friday, May 2, 2014 at his home.

He was born
December 5, 1930 in Neenah, WI, the son of the late Basil and Hazel (Prindle)
Schmidt. Duane graduated from Winneconne High School and joined the Army and
had many stories about the mules and climbing Pikes’ Peak. He was a 50 year
member of the Carpenters Union 955. On October 13, 1956, he married Charidy Ann
Lovejoy at Hope Church, where he served as Deacon and Elder. He was a member of
American Legion Post 391 and was a past commander. Duane served on the Lakeside
Cemetery Association and was sexton for many years. He also delivered meals on
wheels. Duane enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, and gardening. In later years
he was known as the “Hickory Nut Man”.

Duane is
survived by his wife of 57 years Charidy Ann; a daughter Cindy (John) Kohl and
their daughters, Amanda and Kaitlyn; two sons, Daniel and Michael; three
brothers, Glenn (Darlene), David (Merc) and Rodney Schmidt; a sister, Nancy
(Jim) Jenson; sister-in-law Peggy Schmidt; an aunt Julia Wanberg, NV;
sister-in-law, Pat (Duane) Koplien; a brother-in-law Robert Lovejoy, nieces,
nephews, cousins and friends. Duane was preceded in death by his brother
Carleton and a sister-in-law Sharon.

Funeral
services will be held on Tuesday May 6, 2014 at 1:30 p.m. at Hope United Church
of Christ, 8950 Alpine Rd Fremont; Pastor Alex Tychkin will be officiating.
Inurnment with military rites by Wolf River American Legion Post 391 will be in
Lakeside Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 11:30 a.m. until the time of
service at the church. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been
established. The Lewin Funeral Home, Fremont is assisting the family with
arrangements.
